Te Kopuru School

Our Vision

OUR MARAE ĀTEA

(The green area) symbolizes Papatūānuku, our Earth Mother. She is central to everything we do, providing us with life, stability, and nourishment. Papatūānuku is our foundation—representing RESPECT.

NGĀ AMO
The sides of the whare.

  • Te Taha Maui (left side) represents a CULTURE OF CARE—WHAKAWHANAUNGATANGA, which fosters positive self-esteem, perseverance, cooperation, and communication.
  • Te Taha Matau (right side) represents a CULTURE OF LEARNING, encouraging excellence in student achievement through the learning process of KI AKO (to learn), KI TE WAIHANGA (to create), and KI WHAKAPIRI (to share). This process is scaffolded according to each student's needs, symbolized by POUTAMA (the steps).

NGĀ MAIHI
The bargeboards.

  • Te Taha Māui: Represents STAFF WELLBEING – emphasizing the significance of the work and wellbeing of our kaiako.
  • Te Taha Matau: Represents COMMUNITY WELLBEING – acknowledging the support and contribution of whānau, friends, and the wider community in our shared learning journey.

NGĀ KORU
(The koru inside the whare) symbolize the SCHOOL VALUES.

  • TIKA – Truth (kowhai/yellow)
  • AROHA – Love (whero/red)
  • PONO – Honesty (kahurangi/blue)

These three core values are intertwined and form TE POUTOKOMANUWA—the central post that supports our whare and embodies the essence of RESPECT.

OUR PLACE
Our school stands in the shadow of TOKATOKA and MAUNGARAHO, our maunga, and by the WAIROA RIVER, our awa.
